"DOGS' DEN BOARDING TIPS FOR A HAPPY CAMPER"

Knowing that you chose us to care for your dog while you're away,
let us help you prepare your dog for its visit. First and foremost, make sure your dog's vaccinations are up to date. This includes:

1. Rabies, 2. Distemper, 3. Hepatitis, 4. Leptospirosis, 5. Parainfluenza, Parvovirus (DHLPP) and 6. the Bordetella (Kennel Cough).

All dogs must have veterinarian documentation of their current vaccinations before we can allow your pet into our facility for either daycare or boarding. This ensures your pet and others further protection against any number of communicable diseases.
If at all possible, you should consider stopping in with your dog for a brief visit, perhaps even letting them enjoy a fun filled day in our daycare program. This will allow your dog to meet the staff and become familiar with the surroundings. An overnight stay will also do wonders to prepare your dog for his longer visit. Always provide as much information as possible to our kennel staff. Obviously, we will have to know about any medications we will need to administer, food allergies, special dog food or diets, and what types of fears or phobias they might have.

Most dogs will benefit from bringing familiar items with them. A special toy, their blanket, an older piece of garment, or even one of your slippers will comfort them. By all means, do not wash them (familiar smells are half the battle so don't destroy them) your scent and recognizable articles will help comfort them when they are bedded down for the night. When packing and preparing for your trip, try to go about it as calmly and casually as possible. Gather his belongings and have them in the car prior to transport. Hectic packing and rushing about will also alert them that something is amiss, and by the time you're ready to transport him to us; he will already begin to feel a bit anxious and stressed. When dropping your dog off at our facility try to remain as nonchalant as possible. Don't be over affectionate or do anything that might cause him to attach too much significance to his plight. The objective here is to minimize rather than exaggerate. Keep it low-key-no long goodbyes, no tears and no emotion. After handing Rovers lead to a kennel staffer, allow the staffer to distract him and quietly slip out. *If you're a frequent traveler, your faithful friend will get used to being boarded and in most cases will look forward to the experience, especially if he gets an opportunity to mix and mingle with other dogs. He will get to know the staff and look forward to seeing them. Dogs' Den and its staff are aware of your concerns as well. That is why our first step is making sure your pet's health and safety is our main goal. I am sure you have already taken a tour of our complete facility. If not, we highly encourage you to please feel free to come in and do so. We pride ourselves in offering you and your pet top of the line ventilation, sterilization, lighting, housing, and an experienced staff on hand 24/7. We strive to keep our facility clean and well kept while still allowing for that comfy outdoorsy feeling of freedom to socialize with their counterparts, while allowing them to run and play and be Rover all over! Not to mention, best of all… you can view it all… via our web cam at: www.mydogsden.com or always feel free to call us at any time for your pets latest updates at: (718) 499-3525.

NOTE: If you happen to be boarding more then one dog and you would like them to be placed in the same kennel at night: NY state law regulations and guidelines require that you "must" provide your kennel operator with written documentation from your veterinarian stating that they recommend your pets be kept together at "all times." Information must also be provided as to why he feels so strongly with reference to this matter. Example: Due to anxiety issues, as they have never been separated before; it will cause too much stress and would be unhealthy or them in this type of situation, etc. This only needs to be presented to us one time. We will make a copy of this document and we will always keep it on file for any future needs. Again, this is a state law, and it is important for both of us to work together to obey this rule so we can continue to uphold our good standing with the state, the public and most of all the for the health and safety of your pets.
